Today in the Catalonian capital, the PBC CSKA general director held two important meetings. In the morning, Sergey Kushchenko had discussions with Euroleague marketing consultants Marshall Glickman and Douglas Piper. Having gone over documents given to them by CSKA – and also working from their own investigations – these American specialists rated very highly the marketing activities that CSKA has already conducted. According to Glickman, much of the work that CSKA has done in Moscow could work in other European clubs. Glickman and Piper accepted an offer from Kushchenko and will come to a CSKA home game in the near future. At the meeting, Kushchenko also confirmed that CSKA will take part in a ticket program recently proposed by the Euroleague’s marketing commission.

The second half of the day Kushchenko met with Euroleague director Jordy Bertomeau. First of all Kushchenko and Bertomeau discussed the pushing of Euroleague brands and trademarks onto the European market, and also analyzed steps for increasing profits for the Euroleague as well as for its participating clubs. Furthermore, a decision was made to hold an ULEB meeting here in Moscow this season. The exact dates of the meeting should be announced in the near future. The second meeting, which will take place by the end of the season, will be held in Turkey.

At Kushchenko’s invitation, the Euroleague general director will visit Moscow at the end of March. This visit will serve numerous purposes. First, Bertomeau will watch CSKA’s March 26 home game versus the Spanish club Unicaja. Secondly, the Euroleague general director plans to visit the Moscow Sports Palace, one of the possible future hosts of the Euroleague Final Four. This season’s final four will take place in Barcelona, and next year it will be in Tel Aviv. The host of the 2004-2005 Final Four has not yet been decided.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Bertomeau and Kushchenko also discussed cooperation between ULEB and FIBA. Both agreed that these two organizations have been coming closer together recently.
