Janis Strelnieks joined CSKA

Guard Janis Strelnieks (29 y.o., 191 cm) signed 2-year contract with our club.

The Latvian shooter has big experience of playing on the highest level. He played in EuroLeague for 5 seasons (with Budivelnik, Brose and Olympiacos), won the titles in Latvia, Ukraine and Germany, participated in 4 Eurobaskets (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017) with his National team. In 2007 his buzzer-beating three-pointer helped Latvian team to win U18 European championship.

Previous season was second for Janis in Olympiacos. Before suffering foot muscle injury he played in 20 EuroLeague games averaging 8.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 20.8 minutes. His shooting line was impressive: 53.7% of two-pointers, 45.9% three-pointers and 86.6% free throws. The Latvian proved to be a great scorer all his EuroLeague career. He averages 9.1 points on 54.6-42.5-90.6 shooting.

Strelnieks is a combo guard with good experience on the European level. He is also at the right basketball age and he is very motivated to play for our team. We had first been in contact about his possible signing in 2015, when he was younger, and we followed his progress through all these years. We welcome Janis to CSKA.
