CSKA to host two crucial Russian national team games

Two crucial home games for the Russian national team in the qualification round of the 2003 European Championships against England (22.01.03) and Italy (25.01.03) will take place at USK CSKA. An agreement was made between the CSKA administration and Olga Smorodskaya, negotiating for RFB President Sergey Chernov and CSKA General Director Sergey Kushchenko.

"First of all, the national team is facing a critical match, and PBC CSKA is prepared to give the maximum effort to help the team earn a spot in the European Championships," said Kushchenko. "Secondly, considering the large CSKA contingent which plays on the national team, it’s not good for us if the players waste time on traveling, as they did in the previous round of the qualification tournament. Finally, the Italians are our main opponents, and I don’t doubt that the support of our fans will help the team, which hasn’t played in Moscow in more than a year."
