Toko Shengelia will continue his career in another team

Shengelia joined the red-blues in the summer of 2020, having moved from the Baskonia. In less than two seasons, Toko played 52 games for CSKA in the Euroleague (11.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists) and 35 games in the VTB United League (13.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists). The Georgian player won the titles of the VTB United League and Russian champion, he was elected to the starting five of the VTB League All-Star Game, was named the Euroleague Round MVP twice.

When inviting Toko to the team, we counted on his fighting spirit, charisma, and leadership qualities on and off the court. And he fully met our expectations. I want to remind you that Tornike's move to CSKA was criticized a lot, and he withstood this pressure with honor. Shengelia is an example for the younger generation to follow in terms of professionalism, attitude towards family, teammates and opponents, and towards his country. Alas, now it remains for us to accept his civil and family position. I am sure that many clubs dream of such a player, and I sincerely wish Toko to shine brightly in a new place, to achieve great success, to delight the fans with spectacular moments.

It's been a wonderful two years. Unfortunately, circumstances forced us to end the collaboration too soon. I wish him good luck. It has been a privilege to work with Toko as a player and as a person.

I want to thank the CSKA organization for their efforts and their treatment towards me and to state my appreciation for Andrey Vatutin and Natalia Furaeva. Also I want to take the opportunity to thank Dimitris Itoudis, the coaching staff and all club members. Regarding my teammates for this one and a half season, I am proud of having shared the same locker rooms and courts alongside them. It’s unfortunate that the reason of my departure is not related to basketball but in life you have to make choices and this was my choice. Now I'm focused on what the future holds for me.
