Khryapa named the Euroleague Best Defender
Our team’s captain Victor Khryapa is voted by the Euroleague head coaches as the tournament’s Best Defender! CSKA forward interrupted the hegemony of Panathinaikos guard Dimitris Diamantidis who was receiving the trophy for five years in a row – from the moment of its foundation.

During the course of the season Khryapa was the key element for CSKA team defense. His value is evident if you look at the stats: the player is leading the league in defensive rebounding (5.5) and steals (1.95), he is fifth in total rebounds (6.4), eighth in blocked shots (0.95) and tenth in ranking (15.8).

“I am happy to receive this award, - Khryapa said. On one side, I am surprised to be voted by the head coaches, and on the other side, I think that my game is built on defense, so I am glad to see the recognition of that. I’d like to mention that CSKA was always known for great team defense and this prize is just another acknowledgment of that.”

Khryapa won one of the closest votes for the award, edging out Regal FC Barcelona guard Ricky Rubio and Dimitris Diamantidis of Panathinaikos, who had won the award the first five years it was given. Following them, other top vote-getters included Barcelona big man Fran Vazquez, Khryapa’s teammate at CSKA, point guard J.R. Holden, and Maccabi Electra forward Stephane Lasme.
