CSKA forward Darius Songaila will not play in today’s game with ASVEL. Remember, the suspension is due to statements by the player in a Dec. 28 interview with the newspaper Lietuvos Rytas. Today the forward gave his explanation of what happened: “Everything that has happened is just a big misunderstanding,” said Darius. “I in no way wanted the situation to look like that. When I read the article in the newspaper myself, I got the impression that they hadn’t understood me correctly. I don’t think for feel as was written. Furthermore, I’m not at all the type of guy that was featured in the article. People probably think now that I can’t speak openly, but it’s not like that.

“Everything that happened is my own fault, my own mistake. But everyone makes mistakes. The only thing I can do now is to guarantee that nothing like this will happen again in the future.

“I would like to apologize to the coaches, staff and fans for any offense the interview may have caused them. For the entire time that I have been here I have never had any problems with anyone from CSKA: not with the coaches, not with the team’s partners, not with the office staff. I would really like to move on. I would really like to stay with the team.”
