The traditional for CSKA New Year Tournament involving players, coaches and veterans of the team has become a team farewell to the old year party - with jokes, fun and champagne.
Only the Christmas Tree was missing in the training arena, but even without it the holiday smell was in the air. Bored faces was not seen, and everyone who played tried to entertain the family members and club employees who gathered to see the spectacle.
Four teams participated in the tournament:
Team 1: Ettore Messina, Victor Khryapa, Andrey Vorontsevich, Alexander Kaun, David Vanterpool, Alzhan Zharmukhamedov.
Team 2: Dmitry Shakulin, Claudio Crippa, JR Holden, Trajan Langdon, Terence Morris, Anatoly Astakhov.
Team 3: Ramunas Siskauskas, Matjaz Smodis, Nikos Zisis, Victor Keyru, Maxim Zakharov, Sergey Panov.
Team 4: Emanuele Molin, Vladimir Poluyanov, Andrey Maltsev, Alexey Shved, Zoran Planinic, Erazem Lorbek.
Elena Chernova and Natalia Orekhova were the referees.
In the final game Team 1 and Team 3 met. In the game where the first to score 15 points wins the team led by Ettore Messina was a step away from victory - 14-11. But Victor Keyru first established parity by a three-pointer, and then scored the beautiful basket in the fast break. Nevertheless, the representative of the “silver” team Alexander Kaun was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Team 3 also won the three-pointers’ contest.
However, nobody left the arena without a superb champagne.
