An opportunity to consolidate position...
The team's new in-season tournament began with a game against Mega, which delivered the Cup's first upset. At the CSKA Arena, the young Belgrade team won 82-91, immediately putting the red-and-blues in an awkward position. So far, the team has emerged from this situation with flying colors: victories over Parma and Lokomotiv-Kuban have allowed the Muscovites to take first place in Group A – albeit only on goal difference between the three leaders. Therefore, the upcoming game will allow the winner to cement their place at the top.
Meanwhile, Mega hasn't been idle either, and in their second game, back in early November, they defeated Lokomotiv late at home. In their previous Adriatic League game, Vule Avdalovic's team avenged their first-round defeat against Vienna. Therefore, there's no way they can relax about the upcoming game.
The Serbian team's leader remains 19-year-old shooting guard Savo Drezgic (19.0 points, 6.0 assists, 50% three-point shooting in the WINLINE Basket Cup, 16.3 points, 4.2 assists, 37% three-point shooting in the Adriatic League). Fans also remember the 220-centimeter, 18-year-old Italian center Luigi Suigo (16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 blocks) and forward Asim Dzulovic (18.3 points, 9.0 rebounds) in the Cup games.

CSKA had a Christmas day off on January 6 after their victory over Avtodor, after which the team returned to training in Krylatskoye. Aleksandr Gankevich, who missed the previous game with an ankle injury, returned to practice with the team. Meanwhile, the coaching staff is currently without Vladimir Karpenko (leg muscle injury) and Antonius Cleveland, who is staying with his family due to his son's illness.
The Red-Blues held their pre-game practice in the afternoon at their gym, Basket Hall, before heading to Sheremetyevo Airport, from where they flew to Belgrade.
"We played one of our worst games of the season so far against Mega, and we remember that," noted CSKA head coach Andreas Pistiolis. "We need to continue our streak of good performances and get back on track for that loss."
